Classroom Courseworks Columbia

CUIT's Classroom and Desktop Technologies team, the Office of the Registrar, and Facilities Management are proud to offer renovated and updated electronic classrooms to Columbia instructors. Any department may use the electronic classrooms for registered, credit classes. The delicate and expensive nature of equipment in the electronic classrooms has compelled CUIT to establish a policy regarding use and access to the electronic classrooms. This policy addresses the following issues:

  • Training
  • Access privileges
  • Security of the equipment
  • Food and drinks
  • Enforcement of rules
  • Reporting problems
  • Key return

Due to security upgrades, a key is not required for a majority of the podiums. However, the following locations require keys for the specified equipment use. The key must be picked up at the CUIT Service Desk, located at 202 Philosophy Hall, unless stated otherwise. The Service Desk is open between 10am and 6pm, Monday - Friday.

  • 209 Havemeyer slide projector cabinets
  • 301 Pupin microphone cabinet
  • 833 Mudd podium
  • 318 and 509 Hamilton cart
  • 301M Fayweather cart
  • 614 Schermerhorn slide projector cabinet

Located adjacent to the CUIT Engineering Terrace Computer Labs, 252 Engineering Terrace is a hands-on electronic classroom seating 15 students. All instructor equipment is enclosed in a stationary cabinet. The classroom doubles as a computer lab when classes are not scheduled for the room.

The equipment available to the instructor includes a ceiling-mounted Eiki projector. Video is displayed on a screen at the front of the room. The podium contains the various electronic resources available to the instructor. These include a Dell Optiplex, a VCR and a DVD player (that doubles as a CD player). The Dell has a built-in DVD/CD-ROM drive and an Ethernet network connection for digital presentations.

A room customized touchpanel controls the multimedia experience including the audio visual equipment and the physical room environment (program volume).

  • A key is not required for this podium.
